Buddha’s Belly Bamboo
Botanical Name: Bambusa ventricosa
Description: Native to Southern China, Buddha’s Belly bamboo has bright green culms and can sometimes have swelling in the internodes due to high heat. We have not seen this swelling occur in our Buddha’s Belly planted in our nursery. However, it can happen if planted in pots. If planted in a pot, they will become dwarf bamboo and not reach the maximum height. Makes an exciting bonsai. If planted in the ground, it loves a bit of space if given some distance; it can create wind or sound break and provide an excellent green privacy screen. Also suitable for erosion control.

Buddha’s Belly Bamboo Gallery
Care instructions:
- Buddha's belly is a relatively rapid growing bamboo and can reach full height in about 2 to 3 years, depending on conditions and the size of the purchased pot
- Water well and keep moist when planting until well established
- Keep well mulched
- Love's a drink, including a good rainfall
- Fairly drought and cold tolerant once established
- It can be pruned to any height and pleached (remove the lower leaves)
- Not suitable for small areas due to its clump size. (Although the clump size is pretty extensive, Buddha's belly can be controlled using a root barrier)
- Fertilise regularly to promote vigorous growth and more vibrant leaves
